In recent months, Waltek was notified by a customer that radioactive material was found in stainless steel parts that were cast in India. This discovery was made as the parts were passing through Germany on their way to Russia. While Waltek uses only metals supplied by U.S. suppliers, the global markets and international economy make it prudent to be cautious with regard to melted metal.
Waltek has recently developed a radiation monitoring program as a precautionary measure to prevent inadvertently casting metal that is contaminated with radioactivity. Using a sensitive radiation detector, all metal furnish is monitored at delivery and checked again prior to melting. Metal suppliers are responsible for radiation monitoring but Waltek will provide added assurance that parts produced in our foundry are free of radioactive material.
